“Rejoice in the Lord always –again I say – Rejoice!”
As we celebrate this Christmas season warmly snug in our homes, I cannot help but recall that first Christmas when a young woman and young man made their way to Bethlehem, heavily laden with a new life soon to be birthed.
I think about this as I reflect on the warm welcome I have received from everyone at Saint Peter’s -On-The-Rock. As I ponder how different this difficult transition would have been if I had been met, as Joseph and Mary were, on that first Christmas Day, with a cold shoulder and shut doors – “No room at the inn”, I am so thankful you have received me with open arms.
Will you do the same with Jesus? Or are you like the innkeeper? No room! Jesus stands at the door of our hearts and knocks. He waits patiently – no banging down the door – no loud shouting – but with a quiet voice and a gentle drawing of us towards Him. During this Christmas season, I urge you to spend a few moments in quiet contemplation and listening. Listen for the still small voice of God, the one beckoning you into the safety of His arms.
Are you lonely? Do you feel lost? You can find your home with Jesus. He waits for us with arms open wide ready to embrace the broken, the lonely, the lost, the sinful. None of us need feel abandoned by God. He is waiting patiently for us to open the door of our heart.
May the love of Christ fill your hearts and homes with joy and peace this Christmas season.
